Bio:

I've lived and worked on the Navajo and Hopi reservations for over 20 years, serving both tribes as a pediatrician with the Public Health Service. I ran a bit many years ago in high school but had a severe knee injury playing football when I was 16 with torn ligaments and meniscus and was told I could never run again. I followed that advice until about 10 years ago, when my son started running in junior high and I wanted to accompany him on some short runs. I ran my first marathon about 5 years ago and was happy to have just run one marathon in my life - but after the Boston marathon bombings last year, I decided that I really needed to qualify to run Boston - to support the marathon and the running community. I trained like crazy, my knee was kind to me, and I was lucky enough to qualify for Boston last December at the Tucson Marathon. Since Tucson, I've run 2 other marathons - PF Chang in Phoenix and Sedona. I ran PF Chang to try and help a friend qualify for Boston, but it didn't quite work out for her. I ran Sedona just for the heck of it, since it is a beautiful course. I've had good luck with my bum knee so far and am enjoying running, so why stop? I have a wish list now of marathons that I'd like to do, so we will see how far I can get with it. : )
