WHERE DO I START.......... MY FIRST ATTEMPT: I started running as a necessity, due to being a part of the world's best fighting force, The United States Marine Corps. Been at it almost 20 years now and did not seriously get into running until around 2010. My first marathon ever was in 2000 at the LA Marathon. It was miserable and I vowed I would NEVER do it again. I ran it in 5:32:58; with barefooted people passing me along the way. I even had someone running backwards pass me up. Depressing to say the least! MY RETURN: After being stationed in Quantico, I decided to try it one more time (it was that or have to work as a working party handing out water) in 2010. I decided this time, I would really train for it and not just show up and run. I started by running a few 5k/10k runs, then moved up to half marathons, and finally after hard work I ran my 1st of 3 Marine Corps Marathons in October of 2010. I completed it in 4:33:23 and felt a sense of accomplishment. After that I was hooked!! Now 14 years after my 1st marathon and 3 years after the Marine Corps Marathon; I have ran 13 full marathons, multiple halfs, 5 200mile realy races, and several other races. Have never placed in a race and don’t think I ever will, but will continue to push for that PR (personal record) each and every time! My PR in a marathon was at the Ventura marathon in Sept 2013 at 3:54:59. WHAT KEEPS ME GOING: I love the feeling I get when I finish a long run or run faster than I ever thought I would…RUNNER’s HIGH!! It is a sense of accomplishing something that sounds unrealistic and an amazing feeling when you push your body beyond its limits. As a Marine with close to 20 years in, it is a feeling that I know I still belong and I can still hang with the young Marines. I love to show my son that anything is possible, as long as you put everything you got into something, you WILL ACCOMPLISH IT. My wife that keeps me motivated every damn day; really I am only trying to keep up to her. My AWESOME Facebook Running Group, “One Mile 2 Go!” that keeps me motivated and dedicated. Every time I feel too lazy or tired, I read what they did and feel that “CRAP” if they can get up at 4 in the morning and run all those miles or run after a long day at work, then I can do it too. And gives me a great opportunity to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund by running marathon. FINALLY: I plan on running 14 in 2014 (2 complete already/putting me at 25 total) and 15 more in 2015 (in 6 months) to get to 40 marathons on my 40th birthday in 2015 (June 8). What’s after that; well…ultra, tri, anything else that will keep me pushing my limits. That’s if I stay injury free…
