TACOMA TO HOST THIRD ANNUAL MARATHON MANIACS - FLEET FEET TACOMA CITY MARATHON & FITNESS EXPO

Co-directed by Paul Morrison of Fleet Feet Bonney Lake and Tony Phillippi of the Marathon Maniacs, the third annual Tacoma City Marathon will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009.  Festivities begin on Friday, May 1st, with the kick off of a two-day running and marathon expo.  The expo, held at the new, world-class Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center in downtown Tacoma, will feature numerous sports vendors and organizations as well as guest speakers and running-related clinics.  Along with the Full Marathon, a Half Marathon, 5k Run/Walk & United Way Kids Marathon will also be offered for athletes who prefer a shorter race distance.

MARATHON COURSE

The Tacoma City Marathon course is a challenging, but scenic loop through Tacoma. The course highlights much of Tacoma's natural beauty. With views of the Tacoma Narrows Bridges, Mount Rainier, Commencement Bay as well as scenic Point Defiance, the Tacoma City Marathon route provides a glimpse of Tacoma's loveliest sights. Beginning in historic downtown Tacoma, the scenic and rolling course takes you along the shores of Commencement Bay via Ruston Way and throughout the beautiful Tacoma area. The nice downhill finish gives you a smooth ride to the end. Tacoma City Marathon is USATF Certified and a Boston & New York City Qualifier. Half-Marathon & 5K are USATF Certified as well.
