Ground zero for Night of the Running Dead will be Aslan Brewing Company. Runners and zombies will be given race instructions, race bibs, their glow stick necklaces, and then will be released onto the streets of Bellingham. The start and finish line will be at Aslan Brewing Company. There are three checkpoints on this open road course that runners must make their way to in specific order.
CHECK POINT A)
CHECK POINT B)
CHECK POINT C)
Check points will be released closer to the race date.
If you are not familiar with Bellingham, I suggest you plan out your race route. It never hurts to have a plan of action. Trust me, the zombies do, and it includes trying to make you their dinner!
ZOMBIES
Zombies come in three very distinct varieties. There will be dragger zombies - not the fastest brain-muncher out there, but one wrong step and you just may be dinner! The ones you want to avoid like the plague are the runners. These zombies are the ones that are trying to make you a midnight snack. There’s nothing like good old fashion Western Washington brains for DESSERT!!! Last but not least, my favorite zombie the ones out there just to entertain and scare the crap out of you.
RULES
1) Runners and zombies must obey all local, state, and federal rules and regulations at all times.
2) All runners have 1.5 hours to complete the event.
3) Zombies and runners alike will only interact with individuals participating in the race. They will have Night of the Running Dead race bib and glow sticks.
4) If a runner is tagged by a zombie, the zombie will mark the runner's race bib. The runner will then continue on to the next checkpoint.
5) Inappropriate touching, behavior, or any other similar action will not be tolerated. Remember, this is a fun event that we hope to hold for years to come. Respect your fellow competitors and the neighborhood we are running through.
6) No weapons of any kind, fake or real.
7) No pets are allowed. They would only attract the zombies.
8) Your only means of transportation are your own two legs. No automobiles, public transportation, bike, skate boards, or any other mean of transportation. After all this is The Night of the Running Dead.

How long is the race? Night of the Running Dead is a non-designated course. If you plan an efficient course, it is exactly a 5K run. However, with zombies around every corner and hot on your heels, good luck with that. Best guess with wrong turns and zombie detours - 3.5 to 4 miles. It is all up to you. You just need to make sure you make it to all three checkpoints.
Can I dress as a zombie? Of course you can. You can also dress as Papa Smurf or Smurfett. There is a Best Costume prize, after all. Not to mention, it will help you blend in with those trying to make your brains an evening snack!
